Motives and Phrases Overview
In this section of the course, we explore the ways in which composers organize melodies from their smallest constituent elements to their larger segments. With the help of parallel concepts from language, we will examine the ways in which the smallest motivic cells can grow into musical ideas, phrases, sections, movements, and eventually into full compositions.
